What is Acupuncture?
Safe and effective form of treatment
Acupuncture is a safe and effective form of treatment for a wide range of conditions. It also offers a way of optimising health and well-being. From its beginnings in China over three thousand years ago, Acupuncture has developed across the world to become one of a number of branches of medicine that is contributing towards public healthcare.
Acupuncture is a natural, non-toxic system of medicine. The principal method of treatment involves rebalancing the flow of energy know as Qi that runs throughout the body. It is blockages in this energy that causes the disharmony that can lead to illness and emotional problems such as stress and anxiety.
The Qi is accessed by inserting very fine needles at specific points along the body's energy pathways (meridians) and this action allows our bodies to correct the flow of energy to alleviate the symptoms.
Acupuncture treats the whole person to balance the physical and emotional aspects of the individual. Chinese medicine uses a range of treatments such as acupressure, cupping and moxibustion along side acupuncture.
-

Acupressure
Acupressure is simply the hands on application of pressure to Acupuncture points on the body.
It has the same theoretical and anatomical foundations as Acupuncture but does not use needles.
It is very effective in treating musculo-skeletal conditions and stress-related orders.
-

Cupping
Cupping is a treatment method used to remove tightness in the muscles, which can bring welcomed pain relief to specific areas on the body such as the shoulders where many of us carry tension. When the cup is placed on the body a vacuum is created and this has the same affect as a deep massage to loosen off areas of tight muscles.
It is this deep massage effect that helps to free the flow of Qi and therefore assists with the reduction of pain.
-

Moxibustion
Moxa is a herb used to infuse warmth to the body either by placing on a needle, or in a moxa box so the heat can warm a larger area such as the lower back.
It can also be placed directly on to the skin in the shape of a small cone and removed once a comfortable amount of heat is felt.
Facial Revitalisation with Acupuncture is becoming more popular. Fine needles are inserted into points on the face and this increases the Qi and blood flow to the face which helps to improve the complexion and skin tone. The needles stimulate the production of collagen and this will firm the skin and fine lines reduce.
The benefits to this type of treatment are:
- Safer & Healthier than other cosmetic treatments
- No side effects
- Slows the ageing process from within
- Promotes overall health and well being
